INVESTING IN THE AMERICAN DREAM: IS THERE VALUE IN HOMEBUILDER STOCKS TODAY?

It might be time to scoop up shares of U.S. homebuilders, as more Americans find work and put their money toward fulfilling the American dream. Homebuilders have been punished amid twin worries of a slowing economy and higher mortgage rates.

So-called cyclical stocks — those whose fortunes are tied to the economy — can be tricky, which is why investors must closely monitor signs of economic sluggishness. Friday’s employment report for February was strong, as companies added 242,000 jobs. That may have put some recession fears to rest, at least for now.

Record-low mortgage rates have supported the real estate market as the Federal Reserve kept the federal funds rate in a range of zero to 0.25% for seven years until December, when it increased the range by 25 basis points.
