When you hear about neighborhood gentrification you likely think about older buildings updated with designer touches, new cozy coffee shops, unique boutiques and a trendy restaurant or two. Young professionals seeking an active urban lifestyle and shorter commutes flock to these community environments in cities like New York, Chicago and even Detroit and healthy job markets follow. But when it comes to DTL, gentrification has an entirely different meaning; one that is tied to speculative real estate development without the upside of community building and job creation.
